Alright, admit it. Doesn't the name Dragon Magic just seem, well, magical! I would have had to buy this, even if I didn't like the color, which I do.

Wow! green!!
In RL unlike this photo, the green is an exact hue to my shirt, only deeper.

Here's what Fyrinnae says. Be sure to follow the link to see swatches of how differently Dragon Magic looks in various lights, wet and dry.

Deep charcoal with a shimmer that changes from a violety ice blue to pale green to almost gold, depending on the light.

I will definitely have to foil it later. Ha! this is later -- and it is still going strong, no drifting. I took these pictures about 7 hours ago, and if my eyes look any different, it's not by much.

Eyes
Base: Nude Frost the color adheres better with this
Lids: F. Dragon Magic
Lined Lower: F. Embrace this is a beautiful teal
Lined upper: NYX Extreme Black pen -- this is as close to the Mary Kay pen that I loved as I think I will ever come. I like it a lot. Very easy to apply, just wet enough.
Brows: Merle Norman duo powder
Mascara: Guerlain Maxi-lash on top, the little mini from Le2 on the lower lashes

Now, seriously -- seriously! -- do you see any reason why I would ever have to use a carbon color for the base to deepen a color?? I am so pale that colors look dark enough on me as it is. More than dark enough.

My take: I am going to reverse the colors the next time. I think Embrace would be gorgeous and dark enough on my lids; then use Dragon Magic for lining. I asked Book Girl if I should take it off and do just that, and she said no, it was a perfect match to my shirt.

I really did fade it out, though it is hard to see here. Once it looked like nothing was left on the brush (I used Aromaleigh's FO again), there was still product on the brush. I just tapped it around to fade it up and out.

This is a very dramatic, almost shocking, look for me for day. I would reserve it for evening. I don't know how it works to apply Fyrinnae's shadows on top of each other, to vamp up for evening. Will have to try that with a lighter color.

Again, I am extremely surprised how easy these are to apply. They pat on evenly. There is no blotching. They feel soothing and calming to me on my lids.

In order of application:
Primer: Smashbox, the apricot one (not color correcting)
Foundation: Revlon Vital Radiance
Cheeks, under powder: Nars stick
Powder: my sparkly mix
Lips: Fyrinnae Lollipop-pop Lip Lustre -- beautiful orchid color, smashing! See more colors here.

Over powder, up center of face: Smashbox duo primer, using only the shimmery
Blush: MAC Dollymix

Wow Green!! but still fun!

As a physician, I have seen men, after all other therapy has failed, lifted out of disease and melancholy by the serene effort of prayer. It is the only power in the world that seems to overcome the so-called "laws of nature;" the occasions on which prayer has dramatically done this have been termed "miracles." But a constant, quieter miracle takes place hourly in the hearts of men and women who have discovered that prayer supplies them with a steady flow of sustaining power in their daily lives. Alexis Carrel (1873-1944), "Prayer is Power," [1941]

Many physicians have recognized this, I believe, but it is only now coming to the forefront of medical schools (in the US.)

When I think of prayer, I think of the constant interchange of ideas and thoughts that go with a dialogue or on-going conversation with God. It doesn't have to be with a particular posture or in specific words that we have memorized, but those have their place. Sometimes it is wordless or even simply a deep desire or need.

The answers I receive come in many ways -- sometimes a clear sense of what to do; occasionally as if I had heard a word or thought of a Bible verse; sometimes in the words or actions of another person, such as yesterday when I heard from a friend who always seems to call when I most need it; sometimes when I know to do or not do something (which is a little different than my first above); once very pointedly when listening to a speaker and on other levels with other speakers at other times; and sometimes in the thought that I need to be more aware of how I recognize if I have heard -- even to listening more.

How do you think of prayer -- and how have you received answers?

What's to say? I've been hungry for movies I could actually go see and these did not disappoint. Oh yeah, and that movie popcorn too...

Have you seen them? Do you have a favorite?
I rate Star Trek 4 stars and Iron Man 3 3 stars out of 5.

Star Trek
A handsome, wicked bad enemy. Love the Spock(s). Lots of great CGI. You know how it's gonna end, basically. My kind of movie.

Iron Man 3
I loved the last line of the movie, in context.

Enjoy!

I read these in reverse order, because that is how I found them. I bought book # 3 and book # 2 for my Kindle. I got book 1 from the library. The author Elizabeth Spann Craig has written other series, but I have not read them.

Myrtle Clover is an octogenarian and uses a cane, which thumps when she walks. She is 6 feet tall and a former English teacher. She cuts an imposing figure. And she is larger than life in other ways too.

In some ways, she reminds me of Grandma Lazur in the Stephanie Plum novels, but totally different.

She lives across the street from her son Red and his wife and their toddler son. She and her daughter-in-law have a good relationship, which is fun in itself. Red is on the police force.

When she is mad at her son, she puts her gnome collection out in the yard. That, of course, makes him mad. The gardener, who hardly mows, isn't happy either, and the gardener's wife is a poor excuse for a housekeeper.

She delights in solving the murders, because it proves to Red that she isn't yet put out to pasture in the happy home for elderly.

There is a delightful cast of peripheral characters as you would expect in a small town where everyone knows everyone's business, including a nosy next door neighbor and the eligible bachelor on the other side of that neighbor, Miles, who ends up helping her on occasion.

She is feisty and a total delight! And she can't cook, which provides story lines.

A body in the backyard (Book 3)

I loved this book! It was so funny. I laughed my way through it and knew I wanted to read the series. There was enough background given that I didn't feel the books had to be read in order. This was probably my favorite of all of them. I just loved her character. I am far from being 80, but I sure hope that when that day comes I can be like Myrtle.

I rate it 5 out of 5 star.

Progressive Dinner Deadly (Book 2)

When a body is discovered during the first progressive dinner, Myrtle must figure out who dun it. This was probably my least favorite, but I still give it 3 stars.

Pretty is as pretty dies (Book 1)

I give this 4 stars. When a beautiful woman, who is not a beautiful character, is murdered at the church altar, Myrtle is on the scene to figure it out.

Have you read any of these? or any of her other series?

If you would like to see what each little individual box looks like when it is opened, go here.

The price for this set is $49 in the US, which includes shipping. This link takes you directly to the product. You can see other pictures of the set there also. You can also choose other areas of the world.

It makes a nice gift for under $50, even if it seems a little expensive. OTOH, if you included a note saying the full size will follow of the one they like the best, you will be their favorite person this year~

It's been hot, hot, hot here for a couple of weeks. Record breaking hot. But we are beginning to get some serious rains every day, so that is breaking the heat somewhat.

I'm not sure why, but red was calling to me, and I usually only wear red lipsticks in December. I even wore a matching red T. These pictures were taken a couple of days ago, and I don't remember precise colors any more. So I'm going to go with easy and post what I can and leave the rest to summer.

Eyes
I used my usual base. These colors are Bare Escentuals, which I really like a lot. They go on easy and don't bother my eyes. Clinique Mascara. La Prairie brows.

Red Lippie
No, I don't remember what shades I used, but I know I topped it with a MAC gloss. I've been wearing those a lot lately.

Face
This was Revlon ageless cream foundation. The rest as usual: cream rouge under my sparkly powder mix; Arbonne blush over the top of the powder.

I hope you are having a great summer and that you are staying cool.

Do you wear red year round?

I wish someone could tell me why it is that whenever I make a concerted effort to get more organized, I can't find what I'm looking for.

I've said more than once, that if I would just nail it to the wall, I would save a lot of time looking for things.

The trouble is, I'm not a minimalist. I wish I were. I admire folks who are. (Likely I've told you.)

Instead, I'm creative, like to do various crafts...and stuff multiplies, ya know. And I have three daughters who are creative, one of whom is majoring in college in art...so I have plenty of artwork around, which I dearly love, and the stuff that artwork is made from. (And that might be why she is interested in it, outside of native talent -- because it has always been valued.)

About the time I toss something or give it away, I find I need it.

Just because I highly doubt I'll ever do cross stitch again, that's no reason to give away my floss. One of my girls is making good use of it in friendship bracelets.

I gave away a lot of yarn recently, and I feel lighter because of it. (Up until about a year ago, I thought I'd likely never knit again either. Then I found some beautiful yarns and patterns to go with it...and before you know it, I'm back in the game.) The same daughter who makes the bracelets also likes to knit when she feels like it. She's about the same age I was, when I learned.

And just because I'm not wearing a scent at the moment, it doesn't mean I won't wear it in spring or next year...and if I move them around, I have to look for what I'm looking for.

But, if I ever come back, I'm going to learn to be a minimalist. Except for perfumes... and...and... and... LOL! No, honest, I mean it!

Plus it doesn't help that we haven't moved in years, so there has been no culling.

But that might just be an excuse.

When I was in college, the girl across the hall, played the cello in her room. She was very good, and I enjoyed the sound of the cello immensely. Someone else didn't, and she ended up having to practice in a practice room in the dorm. Then she taught herself to play the guitar, which she played in her room. She became a good friend -- and still is.

The funny thing is that on the whole I'm not a fan of classical music. I find it depressing. Then, I'm always surprised to hear pieces that I really like, and there are quite a few. (I like baroque music.)

Skip ahead a few decades, and my 11 yo, on her own, decided she would like to play an instrument. She began on the viola and switched to the cello. I feel like I'm back in college hearing her practice. The wonderful thing is that she is self-motivated to do it. I don't have to even remind her.

I enjoyed this story about stringing a cello and learning a new technique of tuning from a master/master tuner. I'll share it with my daughter when she gets home tonight.

The things of this world
Always, there is far more beauty in this world than we are aware of.

But enter the prodigious talents of someone like Jarbus Agnelli who transcribed the notes represented by birds on a wire. He reminds us of possibilities yet unseen and still unheard. Figuratively, he listened to the music of the spheres.

It reminds me of Hamlet:

There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy. Shakespeare

How do we open the doors of our inner vision to see more of the good that is around us!

Perhaps the willingness
... to be different, to walk a different path
... to be open to possibilities
... to look at things differently
... to take a second -- or even a third -- look
... to listen for new ideas
... to look up
... to take whatever time is necessary -- or to realize that time cannot restrict us
... to develop the skills that are uniquely our own
... to admit the possibility that there might be something more
... to seek for it
... to share it
... to be thankful for it.

What do you think it might be like if we could translate things and events into music?

What if we could hear music in the way that Mozart or Beethoven did? What if we could hear what they never transcribed?

What if we could translate words into a ballet?

Somehow the whole is greater than the parts.

And remember, the melody always includes you.

Do you suppose that is some indication of divine supply?
Everywhere around us -- and where we are -- is filled with more than we can imagine. Count on it!
